Leavers Assembly

13 Jul 2026

A few reminders for our Leavers Assembly:
  • Thursday 16th July at 2pm.
  • Parents/carers can arrive from 1.45pm at the Saplings entrance to the new hall through the car park (red double doors).
  • There are three audience seats allocated for each of our Year 6 pupils.
  • The performance will be roughly between 45 minutes - 1 hour.
  • After the performance Year 6 pupils will return to class for normal dismissal. Parents/carers can wait on the field/yard as normal until the end of the school day.
  • Year 6 pupils need to wear normal uniform for the performance (burgundy polo shirts).
  • If siblings from within Evenlode are coming to watch, please email the office in advance to let us know (thank you to those who have already done so). They will be brought from their class to watch with you and will then return back to class afterwards. This will be counted as one of your three seat allocations.
  • Photos/videos are allowed to be taken but, for safeguarding purposes, must not be shared on social media. This is due to the fact that we have pupils that do not have permission for photos/videos of them to be shared.

HOT WEATHER – EARLY CLOSURE THURSDAY 25 JUNE

24 Jun 2026

HOT WEATHER – EARLY CLOSURE THURSDAY 25 JUNE

Due to the extreme temperatures forecast for tomorrow afternoon, Evenlode will close early at 12:30pm.

Over recent days, we have continually reviewed the conditions within the school and adapted our risk assessment in line with local authority guidance. Following today's monitoring and with a further red weather warning in place tomorrow, we have taken the decision to close at lunchtime to ensure the wellbeing and safety of pupils and staff.

All children will have an early lunch and will be ready for a prompt collection at 12:30pm.

Saplings will remain open and will relocate to our coolest classrooms. Children attending Saplings will be supervised in these rooms throughout the afternoon before Saplings provision begins. If you wish to cancel your child's Saplings booking for tomorrow and receive a refund, please contact the Saplings Manager directly.

Thank you for your understanding, support and flexibility with these arrangements.

Year 5 Performance and Foxy's

22 Jun 2026

Good afternoon. Today the children we told ideas for their costumes for our performance. Please do not feel as though you need to go and purchase something new especially! More information around the timings will be sent out when finalised over the next few days. The children have been working incredibly hard and are very excited to show you all the work they have put into the performance - all in support of Noah's Ark Children's Charity.

At the end of this week, children will be finishing off our block of learning surrounding money. We are going to be taking a walk in our classes up to Foxy's Cafe where the children will be using their money skills in an authentic learning environment. With this being said, we would be grateful if you could provide the children with a small amount of money, no more than £10 - change would be ideal if possible. Foxy's have kindly put together a shortened menu that will be sent out on Wednesday so that you can talk through any allergens with the children and get them excited!
Sycamore will be attending Foxy's on Thursday 25th.
Poplar will be attending Foxy's on Friday 26th.

Thank you as always for your support.

Nursery Sports Day Cancelled

22 Jun 2026

SPORTS DAY CANCELLED

Due to the weather getting hotter as the week goes on,  we have taken the difficult decision to cancel Sports Day in the interests of the health and safety of all pupils.

As today was our reserve date, it will not be possible to reschedule the traditional Sports Day event this year.  Instead, Sports Day activities will be organised in Nursery when weather and ground conditions allow.

We appreciate that this news may be disappointing for children and families, particularly as we are unable to hold our usual Sports Day celebration.  However, we remain committed to ensuring that every child has the opportunity to participate in their races and sporting activities.

Thank you for your understanding, patience and continued support.

Year 1 Sports Day Races

21 Jun 2026

Hello,

Please could your child come to school in their PE kit tomorrow, as we are hoping to hold our Sports Day in the morning before it gets too warm.

Please ensure that your child brings: a sun hat, sun cream (applied before school please) and a water bottle.

Please note that there is no capacity for parents to attend this rearranged event. As this will not be a whole-school Sports Day, the remainder of the school will be following their normal timetable with their usual teaching and support staff. To ensure the safe operation of the school and the event, the site must remain accessible for normal school activities throughout the day.

Thankyou

The Year 1 Team

SPORTS DAY CANCELLED

18 Jun 2026

SPORTS DAY CANCELLED

Due to the significant amount of rainfall yesterday, combined with the likelihood of further showers this morning, we have taken the difficult decision to cancel Sports Day in the interests of the health and safety of all pupils.

As today was our reserve date, it will not be possible to reschedule the traditional Sports Day event this year.  Instead, Sports Day activities will be organised in school when weather and ground conditions allow.  This typically involves year groups completing their races and sporting events on suitable dry days throughout the remainder of the term.

We appreciate that this news may be disappointing for children and families, particularly as we are unable to hold our usual Sports Day celebration.  However, we remain committed to ensuring that every child has the opportunity to participate in their races and sporting activities.

Thank you for your understanding, patience and continued support.

SPORTS DAY 18-06-2026 UPDATE

17 Jun 2026

SPORTS DAY – 18.06.26
We have been monitoring the weather forecast for Thursday throughout the week. The current forecast indicates rain overnight and into Thursday morning.
We will continue to monitor conditions closely, however, for health and safety reasons, a final decision will need to be made tomorrow morning once we have assessed the field and can confirm that it is safe and dry enough for Sports Day to take place.
Thank you for your continued support and patience as we work to ensure Sports Day can take place safely and enjoyably for everyone.

Year 6’s Tuesday Fun Day!

01 May 2026

Dear parents/carers
On Tuesday 5th May, we will be having our Year 6 Fun Day in school! We’ll have a movie morning and lots of fun and games in the afternoon. Important info:
  • Pupils can wear their own clothes on Tuesday or whatever they feel comfortable in.
  • They can bring a small snack for our movie morning (nut free please) and a small soft drink if they’d like to (nothing more than a can/small bottle please).
  • They will not be allowed to share their snacks with others.
  • They will still have lunch as normal
  • They will still need their water bottles.
  • They can bring in something comfy to sit on if they’d like to (beanbags, cushions etc) but nothing too extreme!
  • They can bring slippers if they’d like to, but will need a normal pair of shoes as well as we will be going outside.
  • It is not a toy day so please do not allow them to bring in toys or games.

Many thanks, Miss Bieri and Mr Francis.

Manor Adventure Final Info

30 Apr 2026

Dear parents/carers
With our trip to Manor Adventure happening next week, we wanted to remind you/inform you of a few important things:
  • Pupils are not permitted to eat mints on the coach to help with travel sickness (travel sickness medication can be brought, as detailed below). We will seat them towards the front of the coach as much as possible.
  • Medication must be given to class teachers who will be on the main gate on the morning of Wednesday 6th May. It must be clearly labelled with the child's name and instructions must accompany the medication with how much to administer and when. This includes all medication, including for hayfever and travel sickness. If they are bringing travel sickness medication, please provide some for the return journey.
  • We have shown the pupils the activities we will be doing. As detailed in the kit list previously sent, the vast majority of activities require long joggers/trousers (not jeans) and long sleeves to reduce the risk of injury. On the coach, pupils can wear whatever they feel comfortable with (shorts, leavers hoodies etc), but being ready wearing joggers/long sleeves would be a good idea. We will not be doing any lake activities until Thursday.
  • At the moment, the weather for the duration of the trip is looking to be a mixture of sunshine, cloud and showers so a light raincoat is essential.
  • Children will need a packed lunch on Wednesday 6th May as we will be stopping on the journey for lunch.
  • We know that the children are keen to find out what groups they will be in. However, they will find out these groups when we arrive at Manor Adventure.
  • Children are not permitted to bring mobile phones on the trip.
  • Please limit the number of snacks the children bring with them - there is more than enough food at mealtimes.

Many thanks,
The Year 6 Team.

Crucial Crew Trip

14 Apr 2026

Dear Y6 Parents/Carers,
We are excited for our Crucial Crew trip tomorrow at Barry Fire Station. We will be leaving Evenlode at 9.30 and returning at midday. Pupils do not need a packed lunch unless they normally have one. Pupils must wear normal school uniform. There will be a variety of 'gifts' to buy for £1 or £2, but please ensure that pupils bring no more than £5. Pupils do not need to buy a gift if they don't wish to. Pupils will be responsible for their own money.
Many thanks
Miss Bieri and Mr Francis.

We The Curious

25 Mar 2026

Good morning,

Ahead of our trip tomorrow, we kindly ask that all children arrive at school by 9:00am at the latest. We will be leaving promptly at 9:10am, so this will allow us enough time to take the register and prepare for departure.

Please ensure that children are wearing their full school uniform along with sensible, comfortable footwear. We also ask that each child brings a packed lunch for the day. We The Curious have specified that children are not allowed to take their normal school bag and that they are only allowed to take a lunchbox into the venue due to limited storage. Please can we ask that this is the case, as we do not want to leave bags on the coach during the trip!

We kindly ask that children do not bring multiple toys or fidgets on the trip. We have found that items can sometimes get misplaced, which can be upsetting. If your child would like to bring something, we would encourage a reading book or a small item that they can easily keep safe.

We expect to return to school at approximately 4:00pm, depending on traffic. If there are any changes to our return time, we will keep you updated via Schoop.
We hope the children are as excited as us!
As always, thank you for your support.

We The Curious

18 Mar 2026

Hello everyone,
A quick reminder that any outstanding payments for our trip next week to We The Curious in Bristol should please be sent in as soon as possible. There are still a few outstanding. In addition, please can we ask that all children are sent with a packed lunch for the trip.

Regarding the upcoming sleepover, we will share full details as soon as we receive confirmation from the Urdd. We have been in contact with them and they have assured us they are working hard to finalise and book the activities for our visit. As soon as this information is confirmed, we will send it out to you.

Thank you for your support.
Kind regards,
The Year 5 Team

Mobile Phone Incidents

10 Mar 2026

Dear Y6 parents/carers

We have been made aware of incidents occurring on pupils' use of social media, particularly WhatsApp and other group messaging apps, outside of school. These issues are not normally dealt with by school, but they are beginning to affect the friendships and wellbeing of many pupils. We would encourage parents/carers to have frequent conversations with children about social media and group messages as well as being vigilant with how children are using mobile phones.

Many thanks for your support with this.

Active Travel Network Map consultation - Stage 1

11 Nov 2025

A MESSAGE FROM THE VALE OF GLAMORGAN COUNCIL

We want to provide the Vale of Glamorgan with a network that allows for walking, wheeling and cycling to become the most natural and normal way of getting about for local journeys. And, by doing so, to promote the health and well-being of everyone and to make our towns and villages more liveable places.

Under the Active Travel (Wales) Act 2013, all local authorities in Wales must regularly review and improve their walking, wheeling and cycling routes. Our current map was approved by the Welsh Government in August 2022, and now it’s time to reflect the changes and improvements made over the past three years.

We are reviewing and refining the ATNM to include:

  • Existing Routes: These are routes that meet Welsh Government standards for walking, wheeling and cycling (or all three).
  • Future Routes: These are proposed routes that either don’t yet exist or need improvements to meet the required standards.

This round of consultation is live until midnight 5 January 2026.  To complete the survey online visit the VOG ATNM consultation website.

Cressida Cowell Author Visit

30 Sep 2025

Dear Y5 and Y6 parents/carers,
At Evenlode, we love to work with Griffin Books to organise author visits to school in order to celebrate amazing writers, as well as to promote a love of reading amongst our pupils!
We are so excited to say that we will be welcoming author Cressida Cowell to Evenlode on Friday 10th October to work with Year 5 and 6 for the morning! This is an amazing opportunity to have an author like Cressida and we know that the pupils will be just as excited as we are.
As usual, when working with Griffin Books, we have the opportunity for pupils to purchase books and have them signed on the day. Please see the link below with details on how to pre-order books with Griffin Books. They will bring them on the day ready to be signed by Cressida! Pre-orders need to be completed before midday on Thursday 9th October.
If there are any questions, please contact class teachers.
